Selling on eBay The Correct Way

Getting started to sell online on eBay is very simple and easy.  However, the ability to do extremely well is another thing all together. Here are several things to note about how to sell on eBay the correct way.

Selling Too Many Different Products

Many people have make this mistake as they tends to get greedy when they first start to make money on eBay. After getting their first sale, newbies start getting excited and think to themselves: "If I can make money with this product, I'm sure my customers will be interested in that product too, and that product too, and that too...." While it is true that you cannot depend on one product to make a substantial income selling on eBay, selling too many different products will work against you in establishing yourself as an expert in one particular product niche.

Too Few Listings

eBay listing fees are fees that you pay to eBay just for listing your items to sell and you pay it whether or not the item sells at the end of the auction. Due to this reason, many beginners list only 3 or 4 auctions to "test out the market" and avoid having to pay too much in eBay fees in case the items do not sell. This is a big mistake because if I were a customer buying from an eBay seller for the first time, other then checking out on his feedback, I would also check out what other items the seller has listed. If I find that he only has 3 or 4 auctions listed I will have the impression that this guy is probably doing the eBay business on a very part time basis and I will have reservations about what kind of service I am going to get.

That said, to avoid paying too much in eBay fees due to unsold items, product research is an important step prior to any attempt at making money on eBay.

Selling Bulky Items

There is actually nothing wrong if you sell things on eBay that are bulky. But the cost of shipping these items can be a major turn off for buyers. You will really need reliable wholesale suppliers who can give you attractive prices to ensure that your profit margin is substantial so that you can price your items at a price where customers are still willing to pay after adding in the high shipping costs. Bulky items tend to be more lucrative because you only have to sell less items to get a substantial income but you have to balance it well such that shipping costs do not turn buyers away.

Also, bulky items tend to be very difficult to package and it can add to your own frustration. For me personally, I prefer to sell items which are smaller like action figures, watches, sunglasses etc which are easy to package and do not cost much to ship.

This can encourage buyers to buy more at one time to save on shipping and you get more sale for the same amount of work. Shipping 2 sunglasses in one package is as simple as shipping one, but shipping two TV sets in one package might be more troublesome then if you had shipped them separately.

Not Working With a Wholesale Distributor

If you want a long term business with constant income, you need a consistent source of products. Too many people start off with selling things from their garage or wardrobe and while it is true that you could make a little money on eBay this way, your income is never stable as you will have to struggle to keep finding more things to sell.

Only when you can find a stable and reliable wholesaler providing you with quality goods at reasonable prices is your online business on eBay assured.
